Live cattle futures closed mixed on Tuesday, with front months steady to 22 cents lower and deferreds 7 to 22 cents higher. Cash trade saw some light $350 action in the North so far this week as reported by USDA. Feeder cattle futures were $1.20 to $1.75 higher at the closing bell. The CME Feeder Cattle Index was 2 cents lower on September 28 to $338.77.
Wholesale Boxed Beef prices were higher in the Tuesday PM report, with the Chc/Sel at $18.18. Choice boxes were up $2.18 at $382.66, with Select $6.25 higher to $364.48. USDA estimated Federally inspected cattle slaughter for Tuesday at 108,000 head, bouncing from lower kills in the last week and taking this week’s total to 203,000 head. That was down 2,000 from last week and 29,845 head below the same week last year.
