Raiffeisen Says No Planned Acquisitions in Central Asia

10:55 AM EDT, 09/29/2026 (MT Newswires) -- Raiffeisen Bank International (RBI.VI) said there are no plans to make acquisitions in Central Asia in response to a Bloomberg News report on its strategy in the region. "Western companies are realigning their supply chains, and at the same time, countries across Central Asia are increasingly looking to the West. As part of our strategy process, we will examine how we can respond to these developments in the interest of our customers," a Raiffeisen spokesperson told MT Newswires on Tuesday. Earlier in the day, Bloomberg cited sources as saying that the Austrian lender is set to name Kazakhstan and other Central Asian countries as new growth areas, with potential deals being considered. Chief Executive Officer Michael Höllerer, who took office in July, will reportedly update the bank's strategy in the following weeks.
