Belendsen said that the Dutch government's imposition of trade sanctions on illegal Israeli settlements from September 22 is not directly aimed at Israel, but rather fulfils the responsibilities and obligations assigned to it by international law. Earlier in the day, Belenderson expressed “deep regret” over Israel's decision. Israeli Foreign Minister Sal said on the 27th that he has informed the Dutch Embassy in Israel that Dutch diplomats working in Ramallah must return diplomatic documents issued by Israel within 7 days, after which their diplomatic privileges and immunities will expire. According to the Israeli side, the move was in response to an import ban recently implemented by the Netherlands, which prohibits the import and sale of products from illegal Israeli settlements in the West Bank and the Golan Heights. The Netherlands has a representative office in Ramallah, which is responsible for liaising with the Palestinian Authority.
