Musk reveals Colossus 2 expansion schedule: the number of Nvidia (NVDA.US) chips may more than double before the end of the year

The Zhitong Finance App learned that Elon Musk said that the number of Nvidia (NVDA.US) chips on the AI computing power cluster Colossus 2 built by its subsidiary XAI company may more than double the number of Nvidia (NVDA.US) chips by the end of this year. XAI is now merged into SpaceX (SPCX.US).

The billionaire gave the most detailed timeline of the Memphis area cluster expansion plan to date. He is speeding up the expansion of his computing power.

Musk posted on X that Colossus 2 currently has 110,000 Nvidia GB200 chips and 440,000 GB300 chips. He also said that 220,000 GB300 chips will be put into use next week, and another 220,000 are expected to be put into use in November. If “lucky,” another 220,000 chips may be launched by the end of December.

The business unit previously said it plans to equip the Memphis facility with 1 million graphics processing units (GPUs) by 2026.

According to reports, in February 2026, SpaceX completed the acquisition of XAI through an all-stock transaction. In May, SpaceX signed a cloud service agreement with leading model company Anthropic, which will use Colossus and Colossus 2's data center computing power. In addition, SpaceX has successively signed computing power cooperation agreements with Google, Reflection AI, etc.
