12:56 AM EDT, 09/25/2026 (MT Newswires) -- HSBC (HSBA.L) will discontinue a benefit that covered half the joining fee for members' clubs in Hong Kong as part of a broader reduction in employee perks across the region, London's Financial Times reported Thursday, citing two people familiar with the matter. The benefit, which covered up to HK$200,000 of the joining fee, is expected to be phased out by January 2027 and affects mid-level and senior bankers, according to the report. One source told the newspaper that the change is intended to bring HSBC's employee benefits more closely in line with those at Hang Seng, the Hong Kong lender that the London-listed bank privatized in January. "We are focused on investing in our employees competitively. HSBC and Hang Seng employees in Hong Kong have access to broad learning and development opportunities and a competitive benefits package," an HSBC spokesperson said in an emailed statement to MT Newswires.
