Statistics Canada data shows that in the 12 months ending July 1, Canada's population increased by about 189,000 to 41.8 million. The population growth rate was 0.5%, the lowest level in the same period since 1915-1916. As of July 1, the number of non-permanent residents fell by nearly 155,000. To 2.8 million new immigrants, the number of new immigrants fell for the fourth year in a row, and Alberta's population grew the fastest, with an increase of 1.5%.
