Sunrun Inc (NASDAQ:RUN) shares are trading higher on Monday after the company, along with Tesla, Inc. (NASDAQ:TSLA), said their home battery fleets supplied more than 580 megawatts of peak power to California’s grid on the evening of Sept. 9, 2026.

This marked the largest recorded distributed power plant dispatch and provided enough capacity to power all households in Sacramento County during peak hours.
The three-hour evening dispatch came as California faced extreme heat, elevated electricity demand and higher wholesale energy prices.
The 580 megawatts included 517 megawatts from Tesla Powerwalls and 63 megawatts from other residential batteries. About 110,000 Powerwalls participated, with 55% owned and operated by Sunrun.
Sunrun also dispatched more than 30,000 customer batteries from other manufacturers.
At the request of the California Energy Commission and utilities, the companies discharged customers’ home batteries to strengthen the grid’s operating margin and help lower real-time power prices.
At $8.73, the stock is hovering right around its short-term trend line, sitting about 0.8% above the 20-day SMA ($8.75), but it remains in a clear longer-term downtrend at 9.6% below the 50-day SMA ($9.77) and 36.9% below the 200-day SMA ($13.99). The bigger-picture trend damage is reinforced by the Death Cross that formed in April (the 50-day moving below the 200-day), which often keeps rallies "sellable" until price can reclaim key averages.
Momentum is best described as "not stretched": RSI is 45.08, a neutral reading that suggests neither overbought pressure nor capitulation-level selling. In plain English, RSI helps gauge whether recent buying or selling has become too extended; here it points to a market that’s still trying to base rather than rip.
