Even if it's not a huge purchase, we think it was good to see that Peter P. Luo, the Co- Founder of Adagene Inc. (NASDAQ:ADAG) recently shelled out US$64k to buy stock, at US$3.15 per share. While we're hesitant to get too excited about a purchase of that size, we do note it increased their holding by a solid 30%.

The Last 12 Months Of Insider Transactions At Adagene

Notably, that recent purchase by Peter P. Luo is the biggest insider purchase of Adagene shares that we've seen in the last year. That means that an insider was happy to buy shares at around the current price of US$3.37. Of course they may have changed their mind. But this suggests they are optimistic. We do always like to see insider buying, but it is worth noting if those purchases were made at well below today's share price, as the discount to value may have narrowed with the rising price. The good news for Adagene share holders is that insiders were buying at near the current price.

Adagene insiders may have bought shares in the last year, but they didn't sell any. The chart below shows insider transactions (by companies and individuals) over the last year. If you want to know exactly who sold, for how much, and when, simply click on the graph below!

Insider Ownership Of Adagene

Looking at the total insider shareholdings in a company can help to inform your view of whether they are well aligned with common shareholders. I reckon it's a good sign if insiders own a significant number of shares in the company. Adagene insiders own about US$21m worth of shares. That equates to 10.0% of the company. We've certainly seen higher levels of insider ownership elsewhere, but these holdings are enough to suggest alignment between insiders and the other shareholders.

So What Do The Adagene Insider Transactions Indicate?

It's certainly positive to see the recent insider purchases. And an analysis of the transactions over the last year also gives us confidence. But we don't feel the same about the fact the company is making losses. When combined with notable insider ownership, these factors suggest Adagene insiders are well aligned, and that they may think the share price is too low. While it's good to be aware of what's going on with the insider's ownership and transactions, we make sure to also consider what risks are facing a stock before making any investment decision. To that end, you should learn about the 4 warning signs we've spotted with Adagene (including 2 which are a bit unpleasant).
