On September 18, local time, the Malaysian Amnesty Authority announced that former Malaysian Prime Minister Najib will be allowed to serve the rest of his sentence by confinement at home until August 2028. Najib served as Prime Minister of Malaysia from 2009 to 2018. After taking office, he set up a sovereign investment fund called “One Malaysian Development Company”. In July 2020, the Kuala Lumpur High Court ruled that Najib was convicted on 7 counts of misappropriation of public funds and money laundering in the case of SRC International, a former subsidiary of “Yima”, and was sentenced to 12 years in prison and a fine of 210 million ringgit.
