05:58 AM EDT, 09/17/2026 (MT Newswires) -- Atome (ATOM.L) served a formal notice of dispute against the government of Paraguay over the company's $665 million low-carbon green fertilizer Villeta project in the country. The notice of dispute and intent to submit a claim to arbitration under the UK-Paraguay bilateral investment treaty was served on Thursday by White & Case, according to the low-carbon fertilizer developer's same-day notice. The notice comes following Paraguay's decision to revoke presidential decrees that supported the Villeta project and provided certainty on contract terms and electricity price under the power purchase agreement. Atome said that based on an expert's assessment, Paraguay's violation of the investment treaty could result in a claim worth well into nine figures in US dollars. Under the treaty, Paraguay has three months to resolve the dispute. If a resolution is not reached, Atome will take its case to the International Centre for Settlement of Investment Disputes in Washington in the US.
