Benefiting from large capital inflows brought about by the Bank of India's special mechanism to attract overseas capital, India purchased a record amount of US Treasury bonds in July. According to the latest data from the US Treasury Department, India's net purchases of US Treasury bonds soared from US$3.39 billion in June to US$15.2 billion, and its holdings reached a 10-month high. The Bank of India launched a special channel in early June. By the end of July, the channel had accumulated inflows of 40.8 billion US dollars, driving India to significantly increase its holdings of US debt. This mechanism provides preferential swap arrangements for funds raised from overseas residents' deposits and foreign loans.
