Lean hog futures are mixed on Wednesday, with contracts down a dime to 52 cents higher. USDA’s national base hog price was reported at $84.58 on Wednesday morning, down $2.37 from the day prior. The CME Lean Hog Index was down another 61 cents on September 14 at $86.60.
USDA’s pork carcass cutout value was down $1.48 in the Wednesday AM report, at $88.98. The loin, picnic, and belly primals were reported higher. Federally inspected hog slaughter for Tuesday was estimated at 488,000 head, taking the weekly total to 970,000 head. That was 3,981 head below the same week last year.
