Universal Music Group Sues DistroKid for Infringing Rights in Distribution of AI-generated Music

12:46 AM EDT, 09/16/2026 (MT Newswires) -- Universal Music Group (UMG.AS) initiated legal action in the US against DistroKid for allegedly infringing its rights in the distribution of music online. Through its record labels UMG Recordings, Capitol Records, and Capitol CMG, the Amsterdam-listed music company filed the lawsuit with the US District Court for the District of Delaware on Tuesday. The group accused DistroKid of infringing its rights by "flooding platforms with AI-generated 'slop' that siphons revenue and listeners from the legitimate artists and rightsholders." The group is seeking damages, plus legal fees, for infringed works.
