Energy production in August 2026
In August, the decline in raw coal production in industries above scale (hereinafter referred to as regulated industries) narrowed, crude oil production grew steadily, natural gas production changed from decline to increase, and electricity production remained stable.
I. Raw coal, crude oil and natural gas production and related conditions
The decline in raw coal production has narrowed. In August, industrial raw coal production was 360 million tons, down 7.7% year on year. The decline was 2.4 percentage points narrower than in July; the average daily output was 11.67 million tons.
From January to August, industrial raw coal production was 3.06 billion tons, a year-on-year decrease of 3.3%.
Crude oil production is growing steadily. In August, industrial crude oil production was 18.43 million tons, up 0.8% year on year. The growth rate was the same as in July; the average daily output was 595,000 tons.
From January to August, industrial crude oil production was 146.39 million tons according to regulations, an increase of 0.9% over the previous year.
The decline in crude oil processing has narrowed. In August, industrial crude oil processing volume was 59.07 million tons, a year-on-year decrease of 6.9%. The decline was 8.9 percentage points narrower than in July; the average daily processing volume was 1.906 million tons.
From January to August, the amount of industrial crude oil processed according to regulations was 456.12 million tons, a year-on-year decrease of 6.6%.


Natural gas production changed from decline to increase. In August, industrial natural gas production was 21.4 billion cubic meters, up 0.8% year on year, and decreased by 0.9% in July; the average daily output was 690 million cubic meters.
From January to August, industrial natural gas production was 175.7 billion cubic meters, an increase of 1.1% over the previous year.
II. Electricity production
According to regulations, industrial electricity production is generally stable. In August, industrial power generation was 943.8 billion kilowatt-hours, a year-on-year decrease of 0.8%; the average daily power generation was 30.44 billion kilowatt-hours. From January to August, the regulated industrial power generation capacity was 6647.6 billion kilowatt-hours, an increase of 2.4% over the previous year.
By type, in August, the decline in industrial thermal power increased according to regulations, the growth rate of hydropower slowed, and the growth rate of nuclear power, wind power, and solar power accelerated. Among them, regulated industrial thermal power fell 4.3% year on year, an increase of 0.8 percentage points over July; regulated industrial hydropower grew by 2.8%, slowing down 3.9 percentage points; regulated industrial nuclear power grew by 9.4%, the growth rate accelerated by 2.8 percentage points; regulated industrial wind power grew 7.9%, which accelerated the growth rate by 3.4 percentage points; and regulated industrial solar power grew 10.3%, increasing the growth rate by 4.7 percentage points.
