12:31 AM EDT, 09/10/2026 (MT Newswires) -- Rio Tinto Group (RIO.L) said Thursday it agreed to collaborate with the Nyangumarta Warrarn Aboriginal Corp for the proposed Winu copper-gold mine on Nyangumarta Country in Western Australia. Under the project agreement, the mining giant will work alongside the Nyangumarta People to integrate their knowledge, priorities, and perspectives into project planning to minimize potential impacts on the environment and Aboriginal cultural heritage. The agreement also provides the Nyangumarta People's consent for the proposed mine and related infrastructure. The project remains subject to regulatory approvals and a final investment decision. Rio Tinto owns a 70% interest in Winu, while Sumitomo Metal Mining holds the remaining 30%.
