Corning Incorporated (NYSE:GLW) On Tuesday disclosed a multi-billion dollar agreement with Verizon Communications Inc. (NYSE:VZ).
The agreement covers over 80 million miles of high-density optical fiber and connectivity solutions spanning 2027 to 2032.
The deal is positioned around Verizon’s broadband expansion goals (40–50 million broadband passings) and the long-haul network buildout needed for next-gen AI infrastructure.
The deployment is intended to support growing consumer broadband and converged-service demand while expanding broadband access for homes and businesses and building the national long-haul network needed for AI hyperscalers.
The agreement will also support the expansion of Corning’s U.S. manufacturing footprint, helping Verizon secure the materials needed for its convergence strategy and long-haul AI corridors.
The deployment includes Corning Contour Flow Cable, which allows Verizon to place significantly more optical fiber within existing conduit pathways. The flexible ribbon cable is designed to maximize infrastructure investments while substantially increasing network capacity and bandwidth.
From a trend perspective, the stock is still in a longer-term uptrend (up 129.26% over the past 12 months), but the moving-average stack shows some near-term friction: it’s trading 0.8% above the 50-day SMA ($164.14) while sitting 4.7% below the 100-day SMA ($173.68). That "between the averages" posture often turns the next few sessions into a tug-of-war between dip buyers and overhead supply.
Momentum looks like it’s trying to improve: MACD is above its signal line and the histogram is positive, which suggests downside pressure is easing versus the prior downswing. In plain English, when MACD is above its signal line, it typically means the recent price action is strengthening relative to the prior trend.
