We wouldn't blame First BanCorp. (NYSE:FBP) shareholders if they were a little worried about the fact that Roberto Herencia, the Independent Chairman recently netted about US$750k selling shares at an average price of US$28.48. However, that sale only accounted for 4.1% of their holding, so arguably it doesn't say much about their conviction.

The Last 12 Months Of Insider Transactions At First BanCorp

In the last twelve months, the biggest single sale by an insider was when the Executive VP & Business Group Director, Thomas McDonald, sold US$754k worth of shares at a price of US$22.11 per share. That means that even when the share price was below the current price of US$28.51, an insider wanted to cash in some shares. As a general rule we consider it to be discouraging when insiders are selling below the current price, because it suggests they were happy with a lower valuation. Please do note, however, that sellers may have a variety of reasons for selling, so we don't know for sure what they think of the stock price. It is worth noting that this sale was only 35% of Thomas McDonald's holding.
