The recent price decline of 12% in Huicheng International Holdings Limited's (HKG:1146) stock may have disappointed insiders who bought CN¥10.0m worth of shares at an average price of CN¥0.10 in the past 12 months. This is not good as insiders invest based on expectations that their money will appreciate over time. However, as a result of recent losses, their original investment is now worth only CN¥5.30m.

Although we don't think shareholders should simply follow insider transactions, logic dictates you should pay some attention to whether insiders are buying or selling shares.

The Last 12 Months Of Insider Transactions At Huicheng International Holdings

Notably, that recent purchase by Kailun Zhang is the biggest insider purchase of Huicheng International Holdings shares that we've seen in the last year. That means that an insider was happy to buy shares at above the current price of HK$0.053. It's very possible they regret the purchase, but it's more likely they are bullish about the company. To us, it's very important to consider the price insiders pay for shares. Generally speaking, it catches our eye when an insider has purchased shares at above current prices, as it suggests they believed the shares were worth buying, even at a higher price. Kailun Zhang was the only individual insider to buy during the last year.

It appears that Huicheng International Holdings insiders own 20% of the company, worth about HK$37m. While this is a strong but not outstanding level of insider ownership, it's enough to indicate some alignment between management and smaller shareholders.
