While it’s been a great week for Crosstec Group Holdings Limited (HKG:3893) shareholders after stock gained 25%, they should consider it with a grain of salt. The fact that insiders chose to dispose of HK$345m worth of stock in the past 12 months even though prices were relatively low could be indicative of some anticipated weakness.

While we would never suggest that investors should base their decisions solely on what the directors of a company have been doing, we do think it is perfectly logical to keep tabs on what insiders are doing.

Crosstec Group Holdings Insider Transactions Over The Last Year

Over the last year, we can see that the biggest insider sale was by the insider, Zhou Yi, for HK$107m worth of shares, at about HK$1.19 per share. That means that an insider was selling shares at slightly below the current price (HK$1.43). As a general rule we consider it to be discouraging when insiders are selling below the current price, because it suggests they were happy with a lower valuation. However, while insider selling is sometimes discouraging, it's only a weak signal. This single sale was 69% of Zhou Yi's stake. Zhou Yi was the only individual insider to sell shares in the last twelve months.

Zhou Yi sold a total of 330.00m shares over the year at an average price of HK$1.05. The chart below shows insider transactions (by companies and individuals) over the last year. If you want to know exactly who sold, for how much, and when, simply click on the graph below!

Another way to test the alignment between the leaders of a company and other shareholders is to look at how many shares they own.
