Bit Digital (BTBT) Stock Rises On Revenue Growth Despite Deepening Losses

Simply Wall St·08/14/2026 22:31:54
语音播报

Bit Digital stock closed up about 5% today, a bounce that sits awkwardly against another heavy quarterly loss. Traders clearly focused on the headline growth in Q2 revenue and the strong 57.9% gross margin, while the market appeared to give less weight to the US$107.2m net loss that accompanied those numbers.

Coming into this earnings report, Bit Digital had been roughly flat over the past month and down over the past quarter, with sentiment already fragile. Today’s rally appears to be driven more by relief and optimism around the cloud and data center narrative rather than by a clear profit picture.

Is Bit Digital’s steep reported losses and short cash runway a genuine red flag, or is the market overreacting to headline EPS and overlooking the cash flow story? Compare the current share price with our detailed cash flow based valuation analysis for Bit Digital

Bit Digital bull case leans on ETH and WhiteFiber

Bulls argue Bit Digital can turn an ETH treasury and WhiteFiber into productive assets that fund themselves and reduce dilution. Q2 gives some backing to that. ETH exposure is sizable at 75,757 ETH plus liquid staked holdings and an externally managed ETH bond. H1 operating cash flow of US$46.8m covers a good portion of growth spending, which supports the idea of a self funding model rather than constant equity issuance.

WhiteFiber is also hitting revenue milestones. Cloud services reached US$23.8m in Q2 with gross margin near the group level at 57.9%. Billing has started at flagship facility NC1 under a 10 year Nscale contract worth about US$865m. Management kept WhiteFiber shares off the block in 2026 and used ETH backed financing instead, which aligns with the bullish view that growth can be funded without immediate share sales.

Bear case focuses on losses, dilution risk and concentration

The bear narrative highlights heavy losses, complex financing and Ethereum concentration. Q2 does not ease those concerns. The company swung from a prior year profit to a net loss of US$107.2m, with about US$86m tied to non operating items such as digital asset marks, impairment on liquid staked ETH and derivative and interest costs. That shows how sensitive reported results are to ETH and financing choices.

Staking revenue of US$0.9m in Q2, with rewards down to 440 ETH from 949 ETH in Q1, sits awkwardly against the size of the ETH stack and the risk being taken. The related party bridge and delayed draw facility, even with committees and fairness opinions, underline that Bit Digital is leaning on balance sheet engineering to fund WhiteFiber and preserve ETH. Contract liabilities almost doubled to US$143.1m, so obligations are building while GAAP earnings remain weak.
