UK Tribunal Allows Class Action Against Google Over Alleged Market Dominance Abuse to Proceed

10:48 AM EDT, 08/05/2026 (MT Newswires) -- The UK's Competition Appeal Tribunal granted an application for a collective proceedings order on an opt-out basis against Alphabet's (ABEA.F) Google in a case that claims the company abused its dominant position across several markets. The application claims that the US technology giant engaged in a series of "exclusionary practices" in the markets for smart mobile operating systems, app distribution, general search services and search advertising, according to a court document published Wednesday. It estimated total damages of 5 billion pounds sterling. The lawsuit was brought on behalf of a proposed class of advertisers and named Alphabet, Google, Google Ireland, Google UK, Google Asia Pacific, and Google Commerce as defendants. Google did not immediately respond to a request for comment from MT Newswires.
