EU Regulator Says Preliminary Findings Show TikTok in Breach of Child Safety Rules

06:49 AM EDT, 07/24/2026 (MT Newswires) -- The European Commission said Friday its preliminary findings showed TikTok in violation of the European Union's Digital Services Act for failing to ensure the safety of minor users on its platform. According to the commission, the social media platform's account settings allowing users to set their profile to public and its so-called For You feed could expose minors to potential unwanted contact, cyberbullying, or predatory behavior, which violates the DSA's privacy, safety, and security standards. The regulator noted that its preliminary findings do not prejudge the results of its investigation. In an emailed statement, a TikTok spokesperson told MT Newswires that the short-form online video platform will review the commission's preliminary findings as it continues its constructive engagement with the regulator. "Protecting minors online is a goal we share, and we are committed to building on our strong track record of continuous improvement," the spokesperson added.
