Insiders who bought Jufeel International Holdings Limited (HKG:8611) in the last 12 months may probably not pay attention to the stock's recent 10.0% drop. Reason being, despite the recent loss, insiders original purchase value of RM28.6m is now worth RM32.8m.
Although we don't think shareholders should simply follow insider transactions, logic dictates you should pay some attention to whether insiders are buying or selling shares.
Over the last year, we can see that the biggest insider purchase was by Chairman & CEO Rongxuan Zhang for HK$29m worth of shares, at about HK$0.55 per share. Although we like to see insider buying, we note that this large purchase was at significantly below the recent price of HK$0.63. Because it occurred at a lower valuation, it doesn't tell us much about whether insiders might find today's price attractive.

I like to look at how many shares insiders own in a company, to help inform my view of how aligned they are with insiders. Usually, the higher the insider ownership, the more likely it is that insiders will be incentivised to build the company for the long term. Jufeel International Holdings insiders own 59% of the company, currently worth about HK$172m based on the recent share price. Most shareholders would be happy to see this sort of insider ownership, since it suggests that management incentives are well aligned with other shareholders.
It's certainly positive to see the recent insider purchase. And the longer term insider transactions also give us confidence. But on the other hand, the company made a loss during the last year, which makes us a little cautious. Along with the high insider ownership, this analysis suggests that insiders are quite bullish about Jufeel International Holdings. That's what I like to see! While it's good to be aware of what's going on with the insider's ownership and transactions, we make sure to also consider what risks are facing a stock before making any investment decision.
