12:19 PM EDT, 07/20/2026 (MT Newswires) -- The European Union is said to be looking at several options as it faces a deadlock over the bloc's latest sanctions package against Russia over disagreements on restrictions related to Russian liquefied natural gas, Bloomberg News reported Monday. Unnamed people familiar with the matter told the news outlet that EU officials are discussing the possibility of including a 24-month wind-down period before the restrictions take effect, scrapping the said measure, or shelving the package if an agreement remains elusive. The 21st sanctions package reached an impasse after Greece opposed proposals to limit European companies from transferring Russian LNG to countries outside the bloc, Bloomberg noted. In an emailed response, a spokesperson for the European Commission told MT Newswires that it does not comment on sanctions discussions.
