Banca Monte dei Paschi di Siena to Deepen Review of Banco BPM Merger Proposal

12:18 AM EDT, 07/17/2026 (MT Newswires) -- Banca Monte dei Paschi di Siena (BMPS.MI) said Thursday its directors are planning deeper technical analyses of the merger proposal from Banco BPM (BAMI.MI). The targeted Italian lender noted that its board deemed the offer warranting a "comprehensive and rigorous assessment" to evaluate the industrial merits and financial sustainability of the proposed transaction. The board is also reviewing a takeover offer from Intesa Sanpaolo (ISP.MI), which values BMPS at 30.6 billion euros.
