05:59 AM EDT, 07/16/2026 (MT Newswires) -- The UK Office of Communications, or Ofcom, launched an investigation into video-sharing social media platform TikTok's measures to protect children from potentially harmful content on the app. The regulator said Thursday it has concerns about TikTok's approach to age assurance after the UK government proposed to ban children under 16 from using social media. "We strictly enforce age-appropriate experiences through expert-informed platform rules and advanced age inference technologies, in line with major industry peers. In the eight years since TikTok launched in the UK, we have invested billions in platform safety. We are confident that we meet our Online Safety Act obligations and will work with Ofcom to demonstrate this," a company spokesperson told MT Newswires.
