Talkspace, Inc. (NASDAQ:TALK) shares have continued their recent momentum with a 25% gain in the last month alone. The last 30 days bring the annual gain to a very sharp 28%.

After such a large jump in price, you could be forgiven for thinking Talkspace is a stock not worth researching with a price-to-sales ratios (or "P/S") of 3x, considering almost half the companies in the United States' Healthcare industry have P/S ratios below 1.2x. Nonetheless, we'd need to dig a little deeper to determine if there is a rational basis for the elevated P/S.

How Has Talkspace Performed Recently?

Talkspace certainly has been doing a good job lately as it's been growing revenue more than most other companies. It seems that many are expecting the strong revenue performance to persist, which has raised the P/S. You'd really hope so, otherwise you're paying a pretty hefty price for no particular reason.

Keen to find out how analysts think Talkspace's future stacks up against the industry? In that case, our free report is a great place to start.

What Are Revenue Growth Metrics Telling Us About The High P/S?

There's an inherent assumption that a company should outperform the industry for P/S ratios like Talkspace's to be considered reasonable.

If we review the last year of revenue growth, the company posted a terrific increase of 18%. The latest three year period has also seen an excellent 81% overall rise in revenue, aided by its short-term performance. Therefore, it's fair to say the revenue growth recently has been superb for the company.

Turning to the outlook, the next three years should generate growth of 20% per annum as estimated by the seven analysts watching the company. That's shaping up to be materially higher than the 6.0% per year growth forecast for the broader industry.

With this in mind, it's not hard to understand why Talkspace's P/S is high relative to its industry peers. It seems most investors are expecting this strong future growth and are willing to pay more for the stock.

What We Can Learn From Talkspace's P/S?

Talkspace's P/S is on the rise since its shares have risen strongly. Generally, our preference is to limit the use of the price-to-sales ratio to establishing what the market thinks about the overall health of a company.

As we suspected, our examination of Talkspace's analyst forecasts revealed that its superior revenue outlook is contributing to its high P/S. It appears that shareholders are confident in the company's future revenues, which is propping up the P/S. It's hard to see the share price falling strongly in the near future under these circumstances.
