Equinor Halts Empire Offshore Wind Project Following US Government Order

11:33 PM EST, 12/22/2025 (MT Newswires) -- Equinor's (EQNR.OL) Empire Offshore Wind project received a stop-work order from the US Department of the Interior's Bureau of Ocean Energy Management on Monday. The Norwegian oil and gas giant said in a same-day release that it is complying with the order and has suspended ongoing activities on the project off the coast of New York and New Jersey. US authorities ordered a total of five projects to stop work due to national security concerns. Equinor's Empire Wind is working with the relevant authorities to better understand the matter. The national security requirements were identified as part of a regulatory process conducted over several years, according to the release.
