03:50 AM EST, 12/22/2025 (MT Newswires) -- The Italian Competition Authority hit Apple (APC.F) and two of its units with a 98.6 million-euro fine for alleged abuse of a dominant position through the US technology giant's App Store. The regulator found that the terms of Apple's App Tracking Transparency policy are imposed unilaterally and affect the interests of the company's commercial partners, according to a Monday release. The ATT policy requires third-party app developers to obtain user consent through a prompt before collecting and linking data for advertising purposes. The authority, which conducted the probe with the European Commission, the Italian Data Protection Authority and other national competition regulators, also found the terms to be disproportionate to Apple's stated data protection objectives.
