First Phase of FW Convention Center Revamp Complete

Construction workers completed the $95 million first phase of the expansion of the Fort Worth Convention Center. The first phase of the project, which broke ground in 2023, includes a new southeast entrance, new food and beverage facilities such as a coffee bar, the demolition of the annex to create double loading docks, and the realignment of Commerce Street to create a site pad for a future hotel.

The Dallas Business Journal reports the second phase, estimated to cost $606 million, is expected to begin in late 2026 and be completed by 2030. During all this work, the convention center will remain open for business.

Voters approved a hospitality tax increase in May 2024 to help finance the expansion.

Tourism is a $3.5 billion industry for Fort Worth and employs more than 30,000 people.

A joint venture of AECOM Hunt, Byrne Construction Services and E.J. Smith Construction is the construction manager.
