From what we can see, insiders were net sellers in Ora Banda Mining Limited's (ASX:OBM ) during the past 12 months. That is, insiders sold the stock in greater numbers than they purchased it.

While insider transactions are not the most important thing when it comes to long-term investing, we would consider it foolish to ignore insider transactions altogether.

The Last 12 Months Of Insider Transactions At Ora Banda Mining

Notably, that recent sale by Peter Mansell is the biggest insider sale of Ora Banda Mining shares that we've seen in the last year. So it's clear an insider wanted to take some cash off the table, even slightly below the current price of AU$1.26. As a general rule we consider it to be discouraging when insiders are selling below the current price, because it suggests they were happy with a lower valuation. Please do note, however, that sellers may have a variety of reasons for selling, so we don't know for sure what they think of the stock price. We note that the biggest single sale was 76% of Peter Mansell's holding.

Ora Banda Mining Insiders Are Selling The Stock

The last quarter saw substantial insider selling of Ora Banda Mining shares. In light of this it's hard to argue that all the insiders think that the shares are a bargain.

Insider Ownership

Another way to test the alignment between the leaders of a company and other shareholders is to look at how many shares they own. Usually, the higher the insider ownership, the more likely it is that insiders will be incentivised to build the company for the long term. It's great to see that Ora Banda Mining insiders own 9.1% of the company, worth about AU$218m. Most shareholders would be happy to see this sort of insider ownership, since it suggests that management incentives are well aligned with other shareholders.
