10:17 AM EST, 12/04/2025 (MT Newswires) -- (Updates to add Meta's statement) Voltalia (VLTSA.PA) is planning to develop data centers in Brazil with backing from investors including ByteDance and Brookfield Asset Management, Bloomberg News reported Tuesday, citing people familiar with the matter. The unnamed sources said the French renewable energy company intends to build the data centers at the Pecem complex in Brazil's Ceará state. One of the people said the capacity of the projects could eventually reach 1 gigawatt. One of the unnamed sources said Voltalia is waiting for tax-break approval on export-oriented projects before finalizing partnerships for the developments, adding that it also reached out to US tech giants Alphabet (ABEA.F) and Meta Platforms (FB2A.F) for potential investments in the projects. Meta declined, while Voltalia, ByteDance, Brookfield, and Alphabet did not immediately respond to requests for comments from MT Newswires.
